WCI Communities Inc. is expected to emerge from bankruptcy protection today, and the builder will set up a trust to cover administrative costs associated with Chinese drywall issues.

Until now, WCI homeowners had been precluded by the company’s bankruptcy from obtaining any relief.

“This removes any impediment to recovery,” said Allison Grant, a Boca Raton attorney representing WCI homeowners in South Florida. “Now there is every reason to believe these homeowners will be compensated.”

In court documents, WCI said it built at least 200 homes with the defective drywall. Many are located in Parkland Golf & Country Club and Heron Bay in Broward County.
