CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Some homeowners in the Hampshire of Greenbrier subdivision of Chesapeake are returning home as the developer removes and replaces the suspected chinese drywall originally installed in their dwellings.

The Dragas Company is replacing the dryall in at least 70 homes at Hampshire of Greenbrier. The company is doing the same at homes in the Cromwell Park section of Virginia Beach.

At Hampshire of Greenbrier, the company says families have returned to 16 homes where the drywall removal and replacement process has been completed.

Dragas anticipates the effort to replace the dryall in all the homes will last through the end of the year.

Residents say chinese drywall in their homes creates a sulfur or ‘rotten egg’ smell and ruins their electrical systems.
