Homeowner With Chinese Drywall Phones President – WPBF News 25
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Larry Kosakowski’s dream house has all the signs that it contains Chinese drywall, including copper ground wires that are now dark black.
“That’s supposed to be copper, like a new penny,” explained Kosakowski, pointing inside an electrical outlet.
Those still skeptical that Kosakowski has Chinese drywall, need only take a quick peek around his attic. The Chinese manufacturer’s name is stamped on every piece.
“These four walls and ceiling are defective,” said Kosakowski. The home he and his fiancee had built to their exact specifications is now a source of raw emotion.
“Anger,” said Kosakowski. “First, we’re angry, you know, this is a basic necessity of life, shelter.”
After he tried to get help from local and state lawmakers, Kosakowski picked up his phone and dialed the Oval Office.
“I asked that she let the president know that I call,” said Kosakowski, who got to talk to a volunteer. “And when he gets done with his beers, give me call and I’d be willing to discuss our heinous problem that we’re dealing with.”
Kosakowski had called the day President Barack Obama held his beer summit. And while he doesn’t expect a call back, he said he does expect some federal attention.
“My whole reason is awareness,” said Kosakowski. “And what I’m really hoping for out of the federal government is to urge the banks to cooperate.”
He said he will soon have to leave while the drywall is remediated. He said like many Floridians he can’t afford his mortgage and rent. He would like the federal government to convince the banks to abate mortgages while remediation is being done.
